PREPARE FOR YOUR SESSION

You’ve taken the first step and scheduled your Senior Portrait Session.  Now what?

Choose the location(s) where you will be photographed.

  • There are several great locations to choose from in the Findlay area.  We prefer to be on location.  On location sessions give the individual(s) being photographed the opportunity to express themselves earlier in the session.  For example, if we go to a park with a child he can run, jump, crawl or even play hide and seek.  If we’re at your home then the child is more of the hostess and helps me get to know him.  That’s what makes the best portraits.  Backgrounds are limited. If you choose to be photographed indoors with backgrounds and props, we incourage you to talk with us about options and ideas to bring to your session.

Here are some tips, pointers and ideas to make your senior portraits everything you want them to be.

Session Preparation

You worry about clothes and hair; we’ll take care of the rest
(including those pesky blemishes)!

Clothing Color and Style Make the Difference!

Please use the below suggestions when you are choosing your outfits because proper clothing allows the face to dominate the photograph, with all other elements being secondary.

  • Choose outfits that show your personality and are consistent with how you normally dress.
  • Choose at least one outfit that is timeless and one that shows today’s style.  This way you have one that won’t make you cringe in 10 years and one that will make your kids laugh in 10 years.
  • Medium to dark tones of green, brown, rust, wine and blue photograph very well.
  • Darker shades are more slimming.
  • Choose something that is very simple in color and style.
  • Colors such as beige, tan, peach, pink, white and yellow not only dominate a portrait and overpower the face, but also drain color from the face and make the wearer appear unusually pale.
  • Bare shoulders often make the subject appear heavier and draw attention away from the face.
  • Especially bright colors such as red, orange or pink will ruin a portrait because their intensity overwhelms the face.
  • Stripes, plaids, checks and bold prints also draw the eye away from the face and do not photograph well.
  • Bring your favorite jacket or sweater.
  • You may want to consider getting really dressed up for one pose.
  • Show off your unique style with something fun, formal or wild!
  • Don’t forget to accessorize.
  • Have your hair styled and ready prior to your session.  Small touch-ups or hair changes are allowed during the session.  We suggest you stay away from new styles or colors you might regret.
  • Ladies – bring bright lipstick, powder and wear extra mascara.
  • Everyone – remember to clean and tidy your nails.
  • Consider bringing uniforms, athletic gear, art, car, instruments or any other items that identify you.
